I started looking into probiotics when I was researching how to get my son off ADD medication naturally. My son was 9 years old, when he was diagnosed with ADD. His learning difficulties were impacting his self-confidence and self esteem at school because he felt like he was ‘dumb’. He was sad and angry and I didn’t know what to do to help him. I found it extremely challenging to put him on the medication Ritalin knowing that it would affect his physical health but with very little support from the school, and very little knowledge what to do otherwise, I felt like I had no other choice.
There was a time in my life where I used to have a cigarette before going on a 3km morning jog because I felt like it opened up my lungs and made me breath easier. I especially loved my post run smoke because it felt like the hit of nicotine was stronger when I was out of breath.
I was fit. Fitter than most of the people I knew at the time but was I healthy? Most definitely NOT.
Nikki has chosen to share both her and her brothers stories about their relationships with health and fitness. So many people say these words together like they are one and the same. They are NOT.
There just seems to be times in my life when a particular topic just keeps coming up over and over again. At the moment, that topic is biotics. Not just pre or pro but anti as well.
Biotics broken down is about what pre, pro and anti biotics are, why we need them (yes, we do need them all) and how to use them in your life.
I have put together a short instructional video on re-batching and flavouring your kombucha brew.
This week’s blog is a brand new Vlog on our Juzcit You Tube Channel 🙂
The vlog covers questions that I often get about how to do a cleanse, how to order, which cleanse to choose, how long to cleanse for and why to do a cleanse.
If you have been thinking of cleansing and have been hesitating because you are unsure of the whole process, watch this vid.
Do you want to know how a cold pressed juice fast can help you lose weight permanently?
I watched a You Tube video on someone who claimed to be doing a 5 day juice cleanse to test out what it would feel like and review it on her You Tube channel. I was left feeling totally frustrated because the You Tuber didn’t even make it through one day of the cleanse, then she proceeded to bag the shit out of juice cleansing as a “Fad” diet that is dangerous and just should not be done. The worst thing about this is that anyone with questions about the validity of juice fasting to lose weight is being misdirected and misinformed by someone who is totally clueless.
I had this awesome catch up with a great group of friends on the weekend. We sat around chatting about life, relationships, kids, work, all sorts of things but one of the topics that really jumped out at me was our conversation about gluten.
All of them were in some way affected by gluten intolerance. For some, their kids have been diagnosed with gluten intolerance (non-celiac gluten sensitivity – NCGS), others it was their partners. Most of them said that they personally experienced symptoms of NCGS but hadn’t been ‘tested’; they just know that they bloat and feel horrible after eating food that contains gluten.
My youngest son is obsessed with searching You Tube for life hacks. When he finds one he really likes it normally means a big mess and it nearly always costs me money. For example, he found a life hack where he could ‘paint’ his school water bottle by spraying different coloured spray paints into a bucket of water and then dip the water bottle into the paint floating on top and the paint would apparently stick to the bottle in psychedelic swirls of colours.
In reality we ended up with a child covered in paint, an ugly sticky mess on his water bottle and a very messy sticky bucket, both of which hit the rubbish bin. I am glad that I supervised the experiment to happen out on the grass because it really was a terrible mess.
There are better life hacks out there; this one just wasn’t one of them. I find that I prefer finding life hacks that make life easier, not messy and hard. Below are my top 5 tips for getting the most out of your day.
is actually caused by your body’s response to an imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain due to your food choices?
I love to research things about health and nutrition, particularly if it is about something that may affect me. I noticed recently that many of the conversations I was having with girlfriends over coffee related to hormones and in particular hormone imbalances. Many people think that hormone imbalances are a problem that generally only affects pubescent, pregnant, premenopausal and menopausal … Read More
Happy Saint Paddy’s Day Lovers!! In the spirit of Saint Paddy’s Day I went and painted my nails sparkly green. They look so cool. Did you know that Saint Paddy’s day is a feast day where the restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol are traditionally lifted since it is in the middle of Lent (the traditional fasting time for Christians)? … Read More
