I watched a You Tube video on someone who claimed to be doing a 5 day juice cleanse to test out what it would feel like and review it on her You Tube channel. I was left feeling totally frustrated because the You Tuber didn’t even make it through one day of the cleanse, then she proceeded to bag the shit out of juice cleansing as a “Fad” diet that is dangerous and just should not be done. The worst thing about this is that anyone with questions about the validity of juice fasting to lose weight is being misdirected and misinformed by someone who is totally clueless.

I had this awesome catch up with a great group of friends on the weekend. We sat around chatting about life, relationships, kids, work, all sorts of things but one of the topics that really jumped out at me was our conversation about gluten.

All of them were in some way affected by gluten intolerance. For some, their kids have been diagnosed with gluten intolerance (non-celiac gluten sensitivity – NCGS), others it was their partners. Most of them said that they personally experienced symptoms of NCGS but hadn’t been ‘tested’; they just know that they bloat and feel horrible after eating food that contains gluten.

My youngest son is obsessed with searching You Tube for life hacks. When he finds one he really likes it normally means a big mess and it nearly always costs me money. For example, he found a life hack where he could ‘paint’ his school water bottle by spraying different coloured spray paints into a bucket of water and then dip the water bottle into the paint floating on top and the paint would apparently stick to the bottle in psychedelic swirls of colours.

In reality we ended up with a child covered in paint, an ugly sticky mess on his water bottle and a very messy sticky bucket, both of which hit the rubbish bin. I am glad that I supervised the experiment to happen out on the grass because it really was a terrible mess.

There are better life hacks out there; this one just wasn’t one of them. I find that I prefer finding life hacks that make life easier, not messy and hard. Below are my top 5 tips for getting the most out of your day.

FAT – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly!

I feel like there is a massive stigma around FAT! From someone who has come from having no understanding around fat other than a mind-set of “eat fat get fat, there is no such thing as good fat”, to someone who is now using GOOD fats as one of my main energy sources, I feel and see the difference! I can tell you now (I have literally tried this)… A week of eating bad and ugly fats, I feel sluggish, nauseas and bloated, but a week of still eating fats, but this time the good kind, I am full of energy (some days I didn’t even rely on the good ol’ triple shot coffee for a kick), skin is clearer and less oily and next to no bloat (depending on my water intake). Food is literally your body’s fuel!
